DERELICT shops in Glasgow have been transformed into a new community centre after a £200,000 facelift.
Residents in Provanhall held celebrations at the 5000sq ft centre.
It will serve as a hub for local events, youth clubs, sports and fun.
Staff at Provanhall Housing Association have been working closely with young people to create a social centre, which opened ahead of schedule.
Now they've sent out a call for businesses and organisations to help them find furniture to kit out the centre.
A steering group has been formed to oversee the running and development of the centre, named The Connie - on Conisborough Road.
Sharon Smith, youth worker at Culture & Sport Glasgow, has lived in Provanhall for 39 years and has played an instrumental role in driving the project forward.
She said: "I can't believe the centre has been completed already and everyone is really looking forward to making the most of it.
"We hope to expand all the existing popular clubs and sports in the area and use the wonderful new facility to widen its use for other social and leisure activities.
"Our next step is appealing to organisations for help to furnish the centre - we want to make the most out of a place which will benefit everyone in the area."
Provanhall residents are also celebrating the results of a poll which saw almost 200 tenants transfer control of their homes away from Glasgow Housing Association.
Patricia Gallagher, director of Provanhall Housing Association, said: "It has been a fantastic week for us here - winning the Second Stage Transfer ballot with 88% was a fantastic start and with the community centre ready early it feels like a well-deserved reward for everyone.
"The hard work doesn't stop here though and we now need to keep working to fill The Connie with some great equipment."
David Cooper, of Clark Contracts, which carried out the work added: "We are delighted to have delivered this multi-purpose community facility ahead of schedule."
