29/4/2008Kids keep playing after vandals strike

PARENTS and nursery pupils celebrated the opening of their new playground but just weeks later vandals struck.
Graffiti and other drawings, including obscene symbols, were daubed on items at the garden at Easthall Nursery in Easterhouse, Glasgow.
Parents and pupils at the nursery, in Ware Road, were delighted after the rundown old playground was tidied up and new equipment installed, including a reading bench and painted murals.
But weeks later they found vandals had struck and defaced the murals.
Ellen Cassidy, one of the leaders, said: "We tried to keep it nice and clean, but they still managed to do these things to it.
"The area used to be part of the infant school and had graffiti all over, it so we decided to put some children's equipment to brighten it up and stop the vandalism.
"But I noticed writing on the door, then some extra faces on a Humpty Dumpty painting and other symbols.
"They have been painted on and we will have to get specialist material to erase it.
"The worrying thing is the people who did this probably have relatives at a nursery. It is a shame it was defaced like this."
Ms Cassidy added: "We have not pointed any of it out to the children and they have not noticed it. I am sure they would have said if they had."

I was the supervisor on this project with The Wise Group and it was a sensory garden we installed. I was sad to see the state of the garden after a year. As I live in the area it is really hurtful to see it every day good work being destroyed.
